Anna & Ellie driver blomsterstudion The Flower Appreciation Society i London. Istället för en "helt vanlig" hemsida valde de att göra en som speglade just dom.
Today, most people do research, before hiring a florist for example weddings or events. Therefore, it's more important than ever to make a good impression on the website. Anna & Ellie run the floral studio The Flower Appreciation Society in London. Instead of an "ordinary" website they made one that reflectes them.
- Begränsade resurser! En vän lånade oss sin fotostudio för en dag så att vi kunde få några bra bilder på våra blommor. Bakgrunderna, som flickorna i sängen, och strandserveringe är från en mycket regnig bilsemester i Italien för ungefär 5 år sedan. Jag älskar atmosfären i bilderna och när vi började leka med att lägga till blommor på dem så föll allt på plats.
Det var en mycket organisk process. Vi visste inte hur hemsidan skulle se ut tills den började ta form. Många sena nätter med lek i photoshop och vår hemsida var till slut färdig. Men utan hjälp från vår fantastiska vän Emma Van Allen, som är en hejare på programmering, hade vi aldrig klarat det.
You've designed you website yourself. How did you come up with the idea?
- Limited funds! A friend of us kindly lent us his photo studio for the day so we were able to get some good photos of our flowers. The backgrounds, such as the girls in bed, and the seaside shot are from a very rainy road trip holiday in Italy about 5 years ago. I loved the atmosphere of the photos and when we started to play around with collaging the flowers on top of them it all started to come together.
It was a very organic process. We didn't know what the website was going to look like until it started taking shape. A lot of late nights and playing around on photoshop later our website came together. We also couldn't have finished it without the amazing help of our friend Emma Van Allen who is a whizz with
programming and got it all up and running.
Er hemsida ser inte ut som en "vanlig" florists hemsida. Hur kommer det sig?
- Jag tror det beror på våra bakgrunder inom konst och design (Anna är i botten illustratör och Ellie textildesigner). Vi är intresserade av allt estetisk som har med vår identitet att göra, inte bara blommorna.
Your website doesn't look like a "ordinary" floral designer's website. How is that?
- I think our backgrounds in art and design (Anna did illustration and Ellie textile design) is the reason for this. We are interested in the whole asthetic of our identity, not just the flowers.
Det känns som att det finns mycket humor bakom er hemsida. Är det så, och det är viktigt för er?
- Jag antar att det är! Återigen så var det faktiskt inte avsiktligt när vi började göra hemsidan, utan det kom liksom av sig själv. Jag tror definitivt det finns inslag av humor, även vår namn är lite av en ordlek - men vi tror samtidigt verkligen på vad vi har skapat
I feel quite a sense of humour on your website. Is that so and is it important for you?
- I suppose it is! Again it wasn't intentional when we started putting the website together it just happened. I think there's definately an element of humour, even the name is a little tongue and cheek - but we also really believe in what we have created.
Vad tror ni skulle hända om ni bytt till en mer "vanlig" hemsida? Skulle det funka? Skulle det kännas som att ni fortfarande var ni?
- Hemsidan är en mycket viktig del av vår identitet. Folk som kommer till oss är väldigt estetiska och kommer kommer till oss för vad vi just gör, istället för att gå till någonalldaglig florister. Utan hemsidan skulle det definitivt inte kännas som "oss" längre!
What do you think would happen if you changed to a more "ordinaly" website? Would everything be the same? Would it feel like you were not you anymore?
- The website is a very important part of our identity, because we have a strong asthetic people that come to us for what we specifically do, rather than being generic florists. Without the website we would definately not feel like "us" anymore!!
Har ni några råd till andra florister som är på väg att göra eller uppdatera sin hemsida?
- Tänk på din publik, vem vill du locka och göra den enkel att använda.
Do you have any advice for floral designers who are just about to make or update their website?
- Think about your audience and who you want to attract and make it simple to use.
Slutligen så måste jag bara fråga, vilka är de två tanterna i leopardsoffan i ert galleri?
- Åh jag hoppas att de har det bra. Jag hittade dem i Kina, i ett gatuhörn skvallrandes på sin leopardsoffa. De sitter förmodligen fortfarande kvar och skvallrar ...
Finally I have to ask, who are the two old ladies in the leopard sofa in your gallery?
- Oh I hope they're well. I found them in China hanging out on a street corner chatting away on their leopard print sofa. They're probably still there chatting away...
